Pike Swimmers Compete at Big Ten Championships

Brother Charlie Rimkus ('10) finished 6th in the 500 Free this Thursday night.

This weekend 4 brothers and 3 pledges headed to the University of Minnesota for the 2011 Men’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships. After two and a half days of competition, the Pikes have put up some pretty impressive times including two 6th places finishes.

Brother Charlie Rimkus (’10) finished 6th in the 500 Free with an NCAA-B qualifying time of 4:22.42. Rimkus finished the prelims with a time of 4:20.31.

Brother Alex Tyler (’08) also had a 6th place finish, his in the 200 IM. He finished with a time of 1:45.29, also an NCAA-B qualifying time. Earlier this morning Rimkus and Tyler tied for 3rd in the prelims of the 400 IM. They will be competing in the finals later tonight.

Brothers John Frutiger (’09) and Tony Mattar (’09) both had strong finishes in the 200 Free, both achieving NCAA-B qualifying times. Both were very close to qualifying for the bonus final race.

Pledge Dom Cubilec finished 11th in the 100 Back this morning and will compete in the consolation finals later today. He also had a strong showing in the 50 Free, finishing 23rd overall. Pledges Alex Ratajczyk and Ross McAuliffe have also been swimming well in their respective meets.
