After only its second year participating in Dance Marathon at Northwestern University, PIKE Gamma Rho along with sorority partner, Kappa Kappa Gamma, raised $43,321 for the Children’s Heart Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation. Dance Marathon, or DM, is the country’s largest student run philanthropy which chooses a different beneficiary every year. Participants solicit donations in return for a pledge to spend 30 consecutive hours dancing outside the Norris student center. PIKE/Kappa’s $43,000 was enough to defend the second place title for largest fundraiser which the team won in its inaugural DM last year.
The PIKE/Kappa team was not the only one breaking records last weekend. Dance Marathon as a whole had a record number of dancers and surpassed the One Million Dollar mark for the first time ever. A video of the million dollar reveal can be seen here. Special thanks to the DM co-chairs, Catrina Miksis and Julie Sher, for making it all possible.
The chapter is already gearing up to take the 1st place spot from the recently dominant team of ZBT/DG next year and will be appointing a brother solely to focus on DM for the first time in chapter history. If you are interested in getting involved with the team next year be it with a personal donation, getting on the mailing list, or getting your company on board for a donation – or even a matching donation – please contact our philanthropy chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A special thanks to all the family, friends, and alumni who donated and the members of the team who dedicated not only their 30 hours this past weekend, but all the hours necessary to fund raise.
